CORRECTED: November Flash And Booking
Hello and welcome to October Flash and Booking (for the second time)! As always, in order to book a session with me, please respond directly to this email or send a separate email to sevkoresh@gmail.com. Booking guidelines are in the second portion of the email body.
In lieu of any sort of writing about the flash subject matter this month, I am making two announcements: one big, and one small. The first, which is smaller, is that I will be working out of a studio in New York for one single day in November! This will take place on Thursday the 17th of November, and I will have time for two sessions. I'm looking to do pieces which are more sizable to make it worth the time and travel expenses, and will be taking custom requests for either or both of these slots, so if you've been wanting to get work from me in New York and have something interesting and ambitious that you've been dreaming of, don't hesitate to pitch it to me! I will be doing this guest spot in addition to working out of my home as usual.
The bigger announcement is that after years of talking shit about academia I have made the decision to finally dip a toe into higher education, and will be taking on the pursuit of an undergraduate degree for the first time in my life. I am working with the aim to eventually get my masters and I am scared! So starting in December, I will be taking some much needed time off from this work consider my relationship to tattooing and the energy it requires of me/how that will interact with the time and energy school will demand. I had felt this shift coming when I started to pare down my availability in the early autumn, and I'm hoping that taking a break will help me eventually reestablish the spark ignited within me that drives me to make this work- or at least hoping that giving myself some space will help ignite the curiosity to follow the thread that leads me to find out where the work wants to go next, whether that means picking up where I left off down the line or moving away from this medium into another one. While this shift in attention occurs, I'm hoping to be focusing more on taking time to travel and do guest spots/little concentrated pockets of tattooing where and when it makes the most sense so as to not burn out while I try to balance all that will be stuffed on the little spinning platter that is my ADHD addled brain. This decision has been creeping up on me for a while now and I am glad to have found the courage to finally make it concrete. It feels a little frightening, being that I feel tattooing is an integral part of my practice of connection with the natural world, and tattooing is also a built-in form of connection to other people who relate similarly to nature’s patterns. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who has explored this work with me up until this point, and I am grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given to connect with clients in such a meaningful space through such meaningful subject matter. I’m also excited to see who I am and where I go without such heavy emphasis on the built-in identity signifier of “tattooer.” It can be puzzlingly terrifying to untether oneself from the thorny grasp of signifiers of an artistic identity- and honestly, the seductive and strangling tangle of self-perceived social relevance- but that untethering can serve as an important archetypal rite of passage into a phase of deepened personal authenticity. I’m at least hoping that this will be the case.
While I take the time to focus on this newly emerging path I may still write about the things I love to think about the most- and this newsletter gives me a nice little platform for that which I really appreciate, so don't be surprised if you receive some ramblings in your inbox. I'm excited for what this new chapter will bring, being that I for one absolutely adore times of intense change, inner seismic activity, and frantic curiosity as to where the pieces will land. Who knows what is going to happen next! Not me! Hahahahaha!
Keep your eyes peeled for updates in case I’m coming to a city near you sometime in the future. Sending anyone who needs it the courage to untether too. xoxo
Booking is first come, first served. Please respond to this email to the desired date/dates you are looking to book, the number of the flash piece you are interested in getting, and comfortable range of budget. If your desired date and/or image has already been secured, I will gladly offer some alternatives that are available. Modifying flash (zeroing in on a part of an image, extending texture to blend more seamlessly with skin, etc) is always an option! I am taking customs within the realm of the subject matter I usually deal with: found/decayed objects and relics, marine/paleobiology, geology. If it involves a textural representation of the effects of time on an object/planet or if it looks like an alien life form, I’m usually interested! NOTE: If you have a specific custom concept inspired by or similar to a piece that you’ve seen me do, feel free to inquire- however, I never ever replicate pieces which I have made before, so please do not ask me to do so.
Upon receiving an email request to secure a piece and date, I will send back an intake form with information for you on pricing, process, etc, as well as some information for me that you can fill out regarding sizing, placement, accessibility and sensory needs, etc.
