April Flash and Booking
Hello and welcome to April flash and booking! As always, in order to book a session with me, please respond directly to this email or send a separate email to sevkoresh@gmail.com. Booking guidelines are in the second portion of the email body. This month I’ll only be offering a small handful of spots, since I will be on tour playing as my darkwave project Revenge Body with my friend Sunk Heaven- if you’re in the northeast and interested in checking it out, all the dates are here. Hope to see some of you :)
Long piece of writing incoming, once again if you’re just here for flash feel free to keep scrolling, but if you’re interested in some musings on water, memory, consciousness and the ocean, read on!
In the last month, my continuing foray into exploring deep time has sparked a fascination with a new concept which I think dovetails nicely: the idea that water is conscious and has the ability to hold memories on a molecular level. This concept is one which is ancient and evident in many religious and spiritual traditions- springing to mind for me are the Hermetic practice of imbuing a morning glass of water with the energy one wishes to embody over the course of the day; the African & Black Diasporic practice of using a glass of water placed on the altar as an offering to communicate with one's ancestors and deceased loved ones; the concept of the shamanic underworld containing an endless ocean which holds within it the contents of the subconscious; water as an esoteric elemental representation of the emotional body. Despite being nearly universally passed down through generations, the consciousness of water wasn't taken remotely seriously as a concept with any truth behind it until backed by scientific proof in the 1980s- and even after decades of research and material evidence such as these photographs taken by Masaru Emoto, the notion is still widely regarded as pseudoscientific. As a result of this recent fixation, I've been spending time reconciling the metaphysical mythos of water with my own obsession with the ancientness of the ocean.Â
The ocean feels eternal, because in terms of the kind of time that our earthbound minds are used to, it basically is. Formed 4.6 billion years ago, our oceans have been one of the most important witnesses of the depths of our planet's past. The theories of how earth's ancient ocean materialized feel as fluid as the timeless waters themselves: that vapor which had arisen from earth's volcanic surface condensed and rained upon the planet for millions of years as the earth cooled; that carbonaceous chondrites (meteoric rock originating from primitive asteroids) brought a portion of the ocean's water with them as they crashed to the surface of earth; that the ocean was just always here. The ocean is the sole keeper of the secret of how it came to be, answers which are contained in its very molecular structure. The mystery of eternity begins to coalesce with the mystery of infinity when we consider the fact that unimaginably large swaths of earth's oceans remain unexplored and untouched by the hungry minds and probing tools of modern science. The alien lifeforms which dwell in the isolation of these uncharted waters hold microbiological keys which are inextricable from our deep past, and in tandem, inextricable from our understanding of the very consciousness that animates our world.
The implications of water's consciousness are an enormous piece of discovering nature as the macrocosmic mirror of the microcosmic human body. The untouched depths of the ocean are temples of solitude, portals to information which only exists in the recesses of our own subconscious, as our bodies, just like the body of earth, are comprised primarily of water. The way water is molecularly affected by thought, sound, and energy only adds to the growing list of organic life forms whose earthen physicality cannot be separated from nonphysical consciousness. In terms of the origins of consciousness itself on our planet, it seems irresponsibly short sighted to posit the early earth as a spitting, untamed, unintelligent secular mass when some of the earliest chemical compounds of which it was comprised exhibit such miraculous displays of cosmic energetic intellect.Â
The ocean remembers more about us than we do about ourselves- it is a vast, unfathomable bridge between heaven and earth, containing the essence of an iteration of our planet which we have to consciously stretch our imaginations to even begin to consider. Even immersed in the greyish (and generally unimpressive in comparison to many of earth's shores) estuary of the Long Island Sound, the water feels like a living keeper of time and memory: possessor of rhythmic breath, intelligent liaison of the moon, receptor of all molecular knowledge that lives beyond reach of our hunger for rational information. I find myself soothed and centered in the uncertainty of what life and knowledge hides in the darkened depths of the abyss- the surfaces where sunlight dances despite the lack of witnesses for corroboration.Â
Now, onto this month’s ancient oceanic flash subjects (with a chondrite tossed in there for good measure).
Booking is first come, first served. Please respond to this email to the desired date/dates you are looking to book, the number of the flash piece you are interested in getting, and comfortable range of budget. If your desired date and/or image has already been secured, I will gladly offer some alternatives that are available. Modifying flash (zeroing in on a part of an image, extending texture to blend more seamlessly with skin, etc) is always an option! I am taking customs within the realm of the subject matter I usually deal with: found/decayed objects and relics, marine/paleobiology, geology. If it involves a textural representation of the effects of time on an object/planet or if it looks like an alien life form, I’m usually interested! NOTE: If you have a specific custom concept inspired by or similar to a piece that you’ve seen me do, feel free to inquire- however, I never ever replicate pieces which I have made before, so please do not ask me to do so.
Upon receiving an email request to secure a piece and date, I will send back an intake form with information for you on pricing, process, etc, as well as some information for me that you can fill out regarding sizing, placement, accessibility and sensory needs, etc.
OPEN DATES: April 1st, 4th, 21st, 27th, and 29th
AVAILABLE PIECES:
The good news is that any flash that isn’t snagged this cycle will roll over to May’s booking since I am extremely obsessed with all of these pieces.
And if you’ve been inspired to do a little seagazing, I highly recommend exploring the rocky shores of the Connecticut coast while there’s still a little chill in the air.
In awe and exploration,
